The latter is the largest of the country with an area of 370Km². Its varied landscapes are magnificent. The mountainous north has many steep cliffs while in the south and west there is a lush vegetation of palm trees, lemon trees and cypresses. On its shores are many picturesque villages that immerse visitors in the Dolce Vita. Several days are necessary if you want to go around Lake Garda and visit its main points of interest. And there are many. In the south, don't miss the peninsula of Sirmione, its castle and its thermal waters. It is one of the most charming villages on the lake. Not far from there is Peschiera del Garda, another pretty village that looks like Venice with its colorful houses and canals. Going up the eastern shore, stop in Lazise to admire its ramparts and Venetian houses, before reaching the village of Bardolino a little further up, a must for tasting a good local wine. Finally, still on the eastern shore, take the cable car that will bring you to the top of Mount Baldo at 1,760 meters above sea level. You will have a breathtaking view of Lake Garda and on the way down, stop in the picturesque village of Malcesine to visit its castle. On the western shore this time, stroll through the lively little town of Desenzano Del Garda, where you will find Venetian houses and a charming old port. From there, go up to Salò, the largest town on the west bank. It was here that the republic of the same name was founded by Mussolini. A few kilometers away, don't miss the monumental Vittoriale Degli Italiani built by Gabriel D'Annunzio. The rest of the road is steep, especially the Strada Della Forra, which is only for experienced drivers. But the north of Lake Garda is worth the effort. The villages of Limon Sul Garda and Riva Del Garda are marvels for the eyes. In the first one you will find an impressive lemon culture and a 2km long bicycle path suspended 50 meters above the ground. Finally, the second, located at the northern end, is considered the "pearl of Lake Garda". From here you can explore the Varone waterfalls or take the Sentiero Del Ponale, a spectacular hiking trail.
